Hey everyone,

So myself and a fellow Irish YouTuber Lyndsey Milligan decided a couple of months ago to do a swap, she was looking to get some Essence Products which she couldn’t get up in the North when I could get them down here.
We decided on a budget of £/€50 and set the date to send the end of August. So weeks went past of purchasing items to send up to Lyndsey and for her to send down to me.

We sent each other photos of things as we wrapped them and we were so excited.

The day finally came and we got to open them, we recorded them for YouTube so if you want to check that out I will have links down at the bottom… But this is what she sent me 🙂

Absent from blogging, returning once again

Hey everyone,

So I know it has been over a month since I last blogged but I really needed time out to think and to figure where I was going in life, last time I blogged I was awaiting college exam results and that was going to decide what my future was.
Well thankfully it was the right result and I will be attending Athlone Institute of Technology from September 8th.
I will be continuing with my studies in Business, but branching in more modules. This will further aid my future career.

I have continued to record YouTube videos as I find it easier to talk for a few minutes rather than sit and write for a few minutes, how and ever I am back and will be starting properly with better information and more topics 🙂

I look forward to seeing all my old blogger friends ❤ xx

Review of Cafe India Tullamore for Just-Eat.ie

logo
Hey everyone,
So this is going to be a review on a local Indian restaurant in Tullamore, County Offaly. Just-eat.ie asked on their Facebook page if people who blog/vlog would be interested in doing a review for them. Of course I jumped at the chance and here’s what we ordered and the website. Then my review of the food and closing comments. So keep on reading 🙂

One more thing before we go any further, I don’t like spicy food very much, so this was very interesting for me and I am delighted to say I tried something different. On with the review……

10443379_309143212586537_7900583448376558087_n(Apologies for bad photo)

So as you can see from the photo above, Cafe India are part of the Just-eat website, which is fantastic as you can see their menu and how much everything costs, it also adds up everything for you to the right of the screen as you put something in your order. I also love on the left hand side, they have links to the different sections of their menu such as; starters, tandoori dishes, extras etc… It’s very handy for those in a rush.

What we ordered……
We ordered a portion of

  • Onion Bhaji
  • Tandoori Chicken
  • Garlic Naan Bread
  • Punjabi Chicken Shashlik and Chips
  • Handi Beef and Pilau Rice

As it would take 20 minutes to make, we decided to head in after ordering as we live 10-15 minutes from the town.

On arrival to the restaurant, the restaurant is very clean on the outside and at night time is lit up beautifully as you will see below376.282.0.1.t.cafe-india-tullamore

When we entered the restaurant, the decor was very bright, a gorgeous burnt orange tone with lots of Indian decorations. The waiter behind the counter asked could he helped and then said our food would be 5 more minutes and to take a seat. My first impression of the restaurant was a very spotless and up to date restaurant. There was a great banter between the chef, the waiter and the owner, which of course is great to see as it means that the atmosphere is fantastic and you feel very at ease. 5 minutes later our food was ready and we were on the way home.

The whole way home we commented about the smells and how good it smelt we couldn’t wait to get home and eat it.

This is what the food looked like, very interesting colours and smells.

In my bowl I have some of everything except the naan bread as I don’t like the naan bread. I forgot to mention we also received a portion of Poppadoms, Mango Chutney and Hot and Spicy Pickle for free.

Time to review the food

The Chips were cold by the time we got home, however they were cooked to perfection and I couldn’t fault them other than the cold.

The Garlic Naan was a very generous portion, it was so well heated that by the time we got home it was still warm, the bread was soft and tasted of dough. At some points the garlic was overpowering but it was delicious.

The Onion Bhaji’s were nice but the outside were a bit overcooked. However, the inside were soft and cooked to perfection. They had spice in them, but there was no spice indicated on the menu and as I’m not a huge lover of spice I found them quite hot. The texture of the crunchy outside and soft inside went very well together.

The Tandoori Chicken was a generous portion size for 2 people, whilst the chunks of chicken were big as well. There was no grizzle or bones in the pieces so you had 100% chicken. The sauce(powder) was slightly spicy which gave it a beautiful flavour when you mixed it with the stirfry vegetables that accompanied them.

The Pilau Rice was cooked to perfection, it had a bit of a bite but not too much. The flavours and spices that were added to the rice during cooking gave it a beautiful taste which made it different. It was a generous portion of rice also and the rice worked very well with the Handi Beef sauce.

The Handi Beef was also cooked to perfection, the beef was mouth watering and melted on your tongue. The sauce was thick in some parts but overall had good flavours and texture. Again it was a bit too spicy for me.

The Punjabi Chicken Shashlik had a very good flavour although spicy for someone who doesn’t like too much spice. It was a bit powdery in parts but had a good overall texture. One of the pieces had a good amount of chicken, whilst the other had a good few bones which was very annoying having to pick the bones out. The sauce had a beautiful consistency but lacked a bit of flavour, although when mixed with the chicken it would balance out.

Overall the restaurant and food were a success but for someone with a very low tolerance to spice, I wouldn’t recommend it. Everyone else in my family who tasted it, absolutely loved it and I will recommend the restaurant to my spice loving friends.

I would rate the restaurant 5 out of 5 stars, the food 4 out of 5 and the staff 5 out of 5.

Thank you to Just-eat.ie for asking me to do a review on a local restaurant, I got to try something different which I don’t often do.

Migraine Awareness Month

downloadYes, migraine’s have their own awareness month, who’d have thought it?

Migraines affect 1 in every 10 people, hindering them from school, college, work and their personal lives. That few hours of pounding painful pulses inside and outside of your brain make you aggravated and feel like you are losing control.

What is a migraine you ask?

A migraine is the most common neurological condition in the world. It is a debilitating condition leaving you feel unwell for days. It is three times more common in women than it is in men and is usually inherited. Some people may only suffer 1 or 2 attacks a year, whilst many others suffer on a weekly basis, these attacks can last anywhere from 4 hours to 4 days; some can last longer need more significant treatment.

How are they different from normal headaches?

Migraine usually features a one-sided throbbing headache which can last for hours or days. The headache is worsened by movement or routine physical activity. It is known to be compared to a power cut, the whole body shuts down until the attack is over.  There are many more symptoms other than just the headache.

Sufferers may get some visible aura sensations, with flickering lights, funny shapes, they can also get smell sensations such as smelling foods that are not around at the time.

Most sufferers will also deal with  nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, confusion and, in rare cases, temporary paralysis and loss of speech. Sensitivity to light, noise and strong smells is also frequently reported.
What do I suffer?

I, myself, suffer with a migraine call Hemiplegic Migraines, they are a rare but severe form of migraine. I suffer with all of the above symptoms but I also suffer with paralysis attacks that seem to be like mini strokes. They are extremely scary and very frightening for those who don’t know what they are.

What are the triggers?

Certain foods, drinks, situations or environmental conditions may precipitate or bring on a migraine. It is important to recognise that everyone’s trigger factors are highly individual and that even the most common ones may not be detrimental to you at all.

Common Trigger Factors

  • Travel (motion sickness)
  • Sleep related triggers – sleep deprivation or disturbance, irregular sleeping patterns, too much sleep
  • Changes in routine e.g changing to shiftwork
  • Increases in stress or anxiety levels
  • Excitement or other positive stressors
  • Foods and Beverages – Cheese, chocolate, products containing MSG (e.g. hot dogs, Chinese food), citrus fruits, dairy products, nuts, wheat, fatty foods, nitrates and marinated or pickled foods
  • Lack of food, delayed meals, irregular eating patterns, fasting and dieting (all lead to lowered blood sugar levels)
  • Alcohol, especially red wine
  • Caffeine products or withdrawal from caffeine,
  • Hormonal changes in women. Puberty, menstruation, pregnancy, HRT and menopause are all potential triggers.
  • Meteorological Triggers – change of seasons, high atmospheric pressure, heat or cold
  • Environmental Triggers – smoke, strong smells, high altitude, loud noise, bright, irregular or flickering lights, glare (e.g. from sunlight, from wet surface while driving)
  • Exercise – too much exercise may act as a trigger, although lack of exercise can also be a trigger
  • Smoking or passive smoking
  • Over-exertion / dehydration
  • Long periods in front of a computer screen
  • Head, neck or back injury, High Blood Pressure and other physiological irregularities.

It is best to keep a diary to see what triggers your attacks.

Treatments?

There are many different treatment regimes, however it is best for your doctor to discuss these with you to find out what best suits you.

I hope that you found this interesting and helpful, maybe pass it on to someone you know who suffers with migraines.

How to make Vanilla cupcakes

Hey everyone,
I’m going to be starting something new on the blog and my YouTube channel, So I will be doing baking once a week possibly more and I will be sharing with you my recipes and progress of how to make the recipe…

Unfortunately I forgot to take a photograph of the ingredients but I will describe everything down below…

So let’s get started, the first thing you are going to want to do is get the ingredients out. They are as follows:

  • 1 1/2 cups of Plain White Flour
  • 1 teaspoon of Baking Powder
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 2/3 cup of cold Milk
  • 2 teaspoons of Vanilla Essence/Extract
  • 1/2 cup of softened butter

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit or 180 degrees Celsius

Preparation time: 10 minutes
Baking Time: 10-20 minutes

Makes 12 cupcakes

Cream the butter and sugar together before adding the 2 eggs in, beating after each addition. Stir in the Vanilla Essence/Extract.
Then stir in the Flour, Baking Powder, and beat before pouring the milk in.

IMG_20140530_112622

Place your cupcake cases into your tray. Bake for 10 minutes until golden brown or until they are no longer runny (use a toothpick, back of spoon or skewer to check)

IMG_20140530_114547

Once completed, make your buttercream icing or use pre-made buttercream icing.

To make this you will need:

  • 140g/5oz butter, softened

  • 280g/10oz icing sugar

  • 1-2 tbsp milk

  • few drops food colouring (optional)

  1. Beat the butter in a large bowl until soft. Add half of the icing sugar and beat until smooth.
  2. Add the remaining icing sugar and one tablespoon of the milk and beat the mixture until creamy and smooth. Beat in the milk, if necessary, to loosen the mixture.
  3. Stir in the food colouring until well combined.

As you can see, I made 2 icing’s pink and blue…

IMG_20140530_114539

The tool below is an icing tool, I borrowed this from my neighbour

IMG_20140530_114526

Here are my cupcakes decorated and ready for the party.. I baked these cupcakes for a friend’s baby shower… She doesn’t know if she is having a boy or a girl so I chose to do blue cupcake cases with pink icing and vice versa.

I hope this recipe helped and I hope you look forward to more baking and cooking with me 🙂
